The Fastest Electric Skateboard
Bioboards Plutonium 2
4.7 / 5 | eSkate Hub Review
Price
$3,900
RRP
Range
62 miles
100km
Speed
50mph
80kmh
The Bioboards Plutonium 2 is one of the fastest electric skateboards on the market. It has a 46″ x 11″ Canadian maple and fiberglass dropdown deck for durability and ultimate comfort. It’s controlled with the BioX which is a high performance ESC based on vesc, and is capable of top speeds of 41mph in the 2WD drive setup and 50mph with a 4WD configuration. The massive 1380Wh battery gives it a range of between 30km-138km depending on the drivetrain setup, road conditions and riding style.
Unique to the Bioboards Plutonium 2 are the use of helical gear drives. Instead of belts connecting the motors to the wheels, they use gears. This means there is increased contact between the teeth providing less slippage, and the ability for the motors to turn harder without worrying about snapping belts. They provide insane acceleration and braking performance. They aren’t for the faint of heart.
What’s even more insane is that you can purchase a High Speed Kit for $90 that ups your top speed to an insane 58mph (93kmh).
Pros
- Insanely fast
- Huge range
- Highest quality components used
- Deck nose LED for quick info
- Gear drive means no belts snapping

How To Choose A Fast Electric Skateboard
You
The first thing you need to consider when purchasing a fast electric skateboard is yourself.
Think about your experience level and how much power you will be able to confidently and safely handle.
Don’t try to overstretch yourself, because from experience, that is the point where you can easily lose control and cause yourself a lot of harm.
Secondly, think about the style of riding you want to do.
Do want to get to your destination as fast as possible at consistently high speeds, or do you want an eboard to cruise on with the option of pushing it harder every now and then.
Every eSkater is unique and has completely different requirements. Consider your needs first, then work your way through the features and specs of each board to evaluate whether you need them or not.
Quite often, you can pass up some features or specs and save yourself a lot of money.
Price
If you’re looking for the fastest electric skateboard, you’ll have to expect to pay top dollar for it.
Because these electric skateboards are capable of achieving such incredible speeds, they are not only fitted with the most powerful motors, but they also need to be equipped with electronics to support the amount of energy these motors require.
So, you’ll often see high-end fast electric skateboards with VESCs, and enormous batteries to meet the power requirements.
On top of this, manufacturers of these fast electric skateboards need to use the highest quality components in order to ensure that the skateboard doesn’t break or come lose at any point while riding.
All of this together causes the prices of these electric skateboards to increase dramatically.
AT the top end, you’re looking at anywhere between $3000-$7000, however, the majority of riders won’t need that kind of power and will be more than happy with a fast electric skateboard within the $800-$2000 price range.

Safety
In order for a product to end up on my list of the fastest electric skateboards, it must first meet a strict safety rating.
There is no point in buying an eboard and especially a really powerful eboard if it is not safe.
These electric skateboards can reach speeds that can have very serious consequences if you fall off. So, please always wear protective gear when riding these electric skateboards.
Speed
I’m a confident eskater, however, I wouldn’t consider myself to be an advanced rider.
My comfortable cruising speed is around 25kph and every now and then I’ll push it out to 35kph if the roads are open, flat and in good condition.
The eboards on this list can get up to 90kph which is insanely fast and for most riders, you won’t be travelling at anywhere near these speeds.
However, some riders will love this adrenaline inducing speed, hence why I decided to share my thoughts on the best options available.
Range
It’s almost always better to buy an electric skateboard (within your budget) that has the most amount of range.
Range anxiety is real and it’s the last thing you want to be worrying about when you’re out riding.
I’d even put range before speed in order of most important factors to consider.
In saying that, the longer the range, generally it requires a bigger battery and therefore a higher price.
So a good way to save yourself a bit of money is to think about the destinations you want to ride to, figure out how far away they are and get an electric skateboard that is capable of riding those distances plus 10-15km for a bit of leeway.
Motor Type
In this category of electric skateboards, there are 4 main motor types.
The most common is belt-drive motors. They are fast and powerful, however have the drawbacks of being loud and requiring a little extra maintenance on the belts. The belts can often break if not aligned properly or something gets stuck in them.
The try and resolve the issues of belts, Helical gear drives were invented. Although they are still loud, they remove a lot of the maintenance by not having belts. They are just as powerful, if not more powerful than belts.
The next most common is hub motors. There’s only one eboard on this list that uses hub motors and that’s because they are generally less powerful. However, in this case, the top speed is quite impressive for hub motors. And on the plus side, they are quiet and require very little maintenance.
Lastly, direct-drive motors are rare but still a viable option. They are powerful, quiet and don’t require much maintenance, however, their drawback is that they significantly reduce the ground clearance of your electric skateboard. Anyone who was ridden an eboard with direct-drive motors will tell you that even after your first ride, your motors will be scuffed and scratched just by little rocks hitting them on the way through.
Final Thoughts
Fast electric skateboards are absolutely insane.
They are in a class all of their own.
They look great, are built well and have power that the vast majority of people will never experience on them.
If you have an aching desire to go as fast as humanly possible, you’re in the right place.
But please, make sure you take every possible opportunity to be safe so that you don’t hurt yourself, or worse.
Ride safe out there eSkaters, and have fun!
